Postdoctoral Fellow, Global Development Program

The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs (https://inta.gatech.edu/) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow faculty position as part of an exciting new interdisciplinary Global Development Program, which includes a Minor, Certificate, and one-year Master’s of Science in Global Development. Applicants will be considered at all ranks.

The postdoc is expected to begin in August 2024, with start dates as late as January 2025 also being considered. The term of the appointment will be two years with the possibility of renewal for a third year. In addition to research expectations, responsibilities include teaching one course in global development per semester (1/1), contributing to the advancement of the intellectual community and related outreach efforts, and helping to administer and recruit students to the Global Development Program.

A successful candidate will hold a PhD conferred within the last five years and will be fluent in the perspectives of political science, planning, sociology, economics, science and technology studies, and/or other interdisciplinary backgrounds. The ideal candidate also would maintain active research interests related to development (broadly defined) and to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one course in global development per semester (1/1).
  • Contribute to the advancement of the intellectual community and related outreach efforts.
  • Assist in administering and recruiting students to the Global Development Program.
  • Engage in research activities related to development, broadly defined, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Hold a PhD conferred within the last five years.
  • Possess fluency in the perspectives of political science, planning, sociology, economics, science and technology studies, and/or other interdisciplinary backgrounds.
  • Show promise or evidence of outstanding scholarly achievement.
  • Participate in the multidisciplinary environment of the Sam Nunn School, including collaborations with other departments and programs.

  • Comply with the Board of Regents and Georgia Institute of Technology’s policies on Freedom of Expression and Academic Freedom.

Required Qualifications
PhD in International Affairs, Global Development, or related area

Preferred Qualifications

  • Maintain active research interests related to development (broadly defined) and to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Experience in teaching or course instruction.
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary approaches to global development.
  • Ability to contribute to the intellectual community and related outreach efforts.
  • Hold a PhD conferred within the last five years.
  • Fluency in the perspectives of political science, planning, sociology, economics, science and technology studies, and/or other interdisciplinary backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated promise or evidence of outstanding scholarly achievement.
  • The ability to engage students in experiential learning activities and pedagogy that support student success
  • The ability to teach and mentor a diverse student body
  • The ability to design and teach curricula that are responsive to a diverse student body

Proposed Salary
The term of the appointment will be two years with the possibility of renewal for a third year. The salary is $65,000 for a 12-month position.
