On April 19th of 2024, APSIA hosted the Women in International Affairs Career Panel in collaboration with Seoul National University GSIS, Korea University GSIS, and the University of St. Gallen Master’s in International Affairs and Governance (MIA) Program. This panel was carried out as part of the 2024 APSIA Forum. Watch the panel now.

Students were able to hear from alumnae Kayla Orta (graduate of Seoul National University GSIS and current Senior Associate at the Hyundai Motor-Korea Foundation Center for Korean History and Public Policy at the Wilson Center), Heesoo Yang (graduate of Korea University GSIS and current Programme Officer at UNICEF Dominican Republic), and Sihyun Celeste Park (graduate of the University of St. Gallen MIA and current Political Affairs Researcher at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco). 

Students who joined the panel were able to gain valuable insight and advice thanks to our speakers’ introductions, as well as through an interactive Q&A session. About 15 students and young professionals participated in the event. The panel session was moderated by Ji Yoon Choi, APSIA’s Asia-Pacific Graduate Fellow and Master’s student at Seoul National University GSIS.

During the session, panelists shared their career experiences in diverse pathways into the field of international affairs. Additionally, they went into depth about how their graduate studies in international affairs helped their academic and professional development, as well as specific skills and knowledge that are necessary for certain organizations and roles in their respective fields. 

It was a valuable experience not just for our students, but also for APSIA to help spread awareness about diverse career paths and to help young professionals learn from distinguished alumnae about how they were able to thrive in competitive professional environments as women working in international affairs.

지난 4월 19일에 APSIA는 서울대학교 국제대학원, 고려대학교 국제대학원, 세인트갤런 대학교 국제학 석사학위 과정 (MIA)와 협력하여 2024 APSIA 다양성 포럼 위해서 Women in International Affairs Career Panel을 진행하였습니다.

각 학교의 출신 졸업생 패널리스트는 다음과 같습니다:

15명의 참석한 학생들과 젊은 종사자들이 패널리스트들의 자기소개와 Q&A 세션 통해서 함께 이야기를 나눠보는 시간을 가졌습니다. 참가자들은 패널리스트들 덕분에 소중한 조언과 지식을 얻었습니다. 본 패널의 운용은 APSIA의 아시아태평양 조교이자 서울대학교 국제대학원 석사과정 학생인 최지윤이 맡았습니다. 

패널 진행하면서 패널리스트들은 국제 문제 분야에 대한 다양한 커리어 경로와 그들의 경력 경험을 공유하였습니다. 또한, 국제학 석사 과정이 학문적과 전문적인 개발에 어떠한 도움이 되었는 지 그리고 각자가 업무하는 분야에 필요한 기술들을 알려주었습니다. 

학생들에게 도움이 된 것이 뿐만 아니라 APSIA도 본 행사 통해서 다양한 커리어 진로에 대한 의식을 높이고 젊은 종사자들이 저명한 동문들과 소통 통해 국제 업무의 경쟁적인 환경에서 여성으로서 어떻게 성공할 수 있는 지에 대해 배울 수 있도록 돕는 소중한 기회가 되었습니다.
